How to Fight Winter Dandruff for Men
Sure, winter snow is beautiful. Just not when your hair is doing the snowing.
Unfortunately, several factors converge to aggravate dandruff problems in men during the winter. The cool, dry air outside saps your scalp of moisture - and it’s worse if you live in an area with lots of wind. So does indoor heating - which keeps you warm but dries out the air. Even if you use a humidifier at home to improve conditions, you’re dealing with dry air for several months.
The best way to fight winter dandruff for men is with a consistently applied men’s hair care routine. Here’s how to design your routine in order to get the best results - and zero dandruff.
Shampoo
A natural dandruff shampoo for men should hydrate and strengthen your hair while also fighting dandruff. Use it either daily or every other day, depending on your hair type and what gets you the best results. Our Daily Strengthening Shampoo does that with several key ingredients, including:
Tea Tree Oil. Research shows that tea tree oil is effective at controlling and reducing dandruff. This essential oil reduces itchiness, lowers severity of dandruff, and diminishes greasiness - with no adverse affects.
Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein. Strengthens and thickens hair strands for fuller, healthier hair. This is a must-have in your shampoo if you have thinning hair.
Conditioner
Dryness is a contributing factor to dandruff. That’s why using hair conditioner for men is critical to controlling and eliminating the problem. Our Revitalizing Hair and Scalp Conditioner uses tea tree oil and aloe vera to eliminate fight dandruff and scalp dryness.
If you have itchy scalp, several dandruff, or dry hair, start by using conditioner daily. As your hair and scalp improve, you can adjust the frequency of application. During the dry and cold winter months, you may need to apply conditioner more often in order to get the best results.
Styling Products
Avoid styling products with alcohol if you struggle with dandruff. Alcohol dries out your hair and scalp. Harsh sprays and gels can make your hair brittle and leave flakes behind.
Switch to a natural wax pomade for men that won’t leave your hair dry or damaged. You want to keep your hair looking its best without sacrificing moisture or scalp health.
Beard Oil
Dandruff can also ravage your beard. An itchy, flaky beard makes a bad impression and is not how you want to spend your winter. You can use shampoo for men and hair conditioner for men on your beard to eliminate flakes and keep your whiskers well maintained.
Another excellent way to control dryness and flakes is with natural beard oil. Ours is made with jojoba and argan oils - they hydrate the skin, give your facial hair a healthy shine, and prevent dryness and flakes.
Beyond Your Hair
Keeping your hair and scalp hydrated and nourished will reduce your risk of dealing with winter dandruff. But irritating, dry conditions can cause trouble beyond your hair.
It’s important to use lip balm for men and hand cream for men during the colder months. They will protect your lips and skin from painful cracking and irritating dehydration. The same applies to using body cream for men.
The best time to apply these products is right after you shower. Hot water can strip away some of the natural oils on your skin, leaving your skin feeling dry and tight. Using hydrating, moisturizing products then will lock in the moisture you need to look and feel great - no matter what the temperature is outdoors.
