How to Groom Your Chest Hair

What kind of chest hair are you rocking? A patchy mess? Maybe a thick chest rug? Either way, there are few physical traits as associated with manliness and masculinity as chest hair. It’s what sets apart the men from the boys. And to be honest, most guys look better with a bit of chest hair than they do totally shaved.

But attitudes towards style and men’s grooming are constantly changing. Many guys prefer to totally remove all their chest hair. Others prefer a well-groomed chest that leaves them with some natural hair cover without going totally hair-less.

Even though guys have been altering their body hair since the days of the ancient Egyptians, the current interest in body grooming is more recent. The term “manscaping” was first used in 2003. Since then, trimming your hairs - all of them - has become more fashionable than ever.

So the question persists - what are you going to do about your chest hair? Whether you leave it alone, shave it all off, or opt to trim it up a bit, you need to consider your skin. Because the last thing you want is irritated skin all over your chest.

All Natural

The easiest method is to just leave your hair all natural. But there are some pros and cons here.

  • Pros - There’s nothing to think about. No chance of over-doing it and leaving your hairs too short. No risk of irritated skin from waxing or shaving.
  • Cons - As your hair grows and get thicker, this probably isn’t the best look for you. You’ll definitely want to consult with your Significant Other - because a thick layer of burly chest hair is not always an incentive for intimacy.

If you leave your chest hairs long and flowing, at least keep them clean. Use the best body wash for men or an all in one wash for men in the shower. Don’t let your chest hair turn into a sweaty mess.

Trim

For most guys, trimming your chest hair is the best way to go. You still get the manly look of a hairy chest. But you get extra points for keeping yourself groomed and clearly taking an interest in your personal appearance.

This will require a bit more effort. For the best results, use a men’s body trimmer on the lowest setting about once a month. You just want to take a few centimeters off your longest hairs.

Be careful to avoid leaving long patches - that’s no good. But don’t cut your hairs down to stubble. It won’t feel good under your clothes and will be a major turn off for anyone thinking of getting close to you.

Smooth and Hairless

If you’re ripped, you can pull off the smooth and hairless chest. But this is a look that can go wrong easily and may seem a bit arrogant to some people. So make sure you’ve got the style and muscles to do it.

Your best bet is to get your chest waxed. Yes, you could shave those hairs off. But you do not want ingrown hairs or razor burn on your chest and stomach. Bad news.

What if you have sensitive skin or are worried that waxing will cause problems? You might want to consider sugaring. It’s a lot like waxing, but can be less painful and only uses a few natural ingredients - sugar, lemon juice, and water.
