4 Ways for Guys to Get Healthier, Stronger Hair
Guys - how’s your hair looking? Too many men have dull, dehydrated hair that just plain looks bad. But correcting these issues doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s just a matter of making a few small tweaks to your grooming routine.
It’s no secret that many men will have thinning hair or a receding hair line by their mid-30’s. Whether you’ve noticed this already or not, taking care of the hair you still have is important. So start using these 4 ways to get stronger, healthier hair now.
Be Gentle
This is critical for guys that have already started to lose their hair. Shampooing and drying can be hard on your hair strands. It’s worse if you typically pull and yank at your hair while you’re working the shampoo through it. It weakens hair and will only make your hair loss worse.
The same goes for how you dry your hair. Get in the habit of pat drying your hair gently with a towel. You don’t need to aggressively rub and pull at it to get your hair dry. Remember, you want healthy, strong hair - not weak, beat up hair that gets put through the wringer day after day.
Switch to Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Your hair won’t be strong and healthy if you’re using the wrong products. Most shampoos - especially the cheap ones you find at supermarkets and drug stores - are made with sulfates. Why is that an issue?
Sulfates are what make your shampoo sudsy and foamy. They are heavy, harsh detergents that strip away your hair’s natural oil. That leaves each strand brittle and weak - quite the opposite of what you want to accomplish with your shampoo.
To take better care of your hair, switch to a sulfate free shampoo for men. Look for one with natural ingredients that hydrate, thicken, and nourish your hair - like hydrolyzed wheat protein, amino acids, and vitamin E.
Shampoo Less Often
Daily shampooing isn’t essential for most guys. Instead, you may be able to get away with just washing your hair every other day. It depends on your hair type, your hair length, and what feels right for you.
This can be intimidating if you’ve been washing your hair daily - or even twice daily - for many years. Won’t your hair look greasy and gross?
You may feel like your hair is extra greasy the first few days, but be patient. Your hair and scalp will soon adjust to less frequent washing and be healthier for it. Just be sure you’re sticking with a natural shampoo for men that doesn’t dehydrate your scalp. That can throw off your scalp’s oil production and make your hair look and feel worse.
Condition More Often
Conditioner protects your hair from dehydration and damage. It strengthens the cuticle around your hair shafts by soothing and moisturizing them. The result is smooth, shiny, healthy hair. Even if you tend to have oily hair, using a natural hair conditioner for men once or twice a week will make a difference without making your hair too greasy.
If you have shorter hair, you may only need to condition it once or twice each week. That’s because your natural oils don’t have to travel very far to coat your entire hair strand. But if you’ve got longer hair, conditioning more often is critical. The longer your hair is, the more likely that it will be damaged and dull at the end.
When you use conditioner, focus on massaging the ends of your hair strands gently. And be sure to only use a sulfate free hair conditioner for men - otherwise you’re defeating the purpose of this product.
Take Better Care of Your Hair
The way your hair looks says a lot about you. And many guys that have lost their hair are jealous that you’re still walking around with long, luscious locks. Appreciate what you’ve got and take better care of it with a natural hair care routine for men.
