Why Use a Face Scrub for Men?

The best face scrub for men

A face scrub for men is one of the best products you can use in your arsenal of weapons for clear, healthy skin. We’ve discovered, however, that most men either overuse a face scrub or they don’t use one at all. Both scenarios are not best case. Read on to learn how using a face scrub for men properly can propel you to clearer, brighter skin.

The point of using face scrub (or often called an exfoliator), is to remove dead skin cells that build up on the face and clogging the pores. Your skin cells turnover about every two weeks, meaning, your face has new skin cells every two weeks. Your face doesn’t shed the dead skin cells very well and over time, the dead skin cell build up can cause your face to look dull. The solution is to use a men’s face scrub to clear away the build up and show off a polished face.

Not only is exfoliating good for the skin, it also can do wonders for your shave. Rubbing face scrub into the area of the face you’ll be shaving before the shave, softens up the facial hair and whiskers, allowing the blade to more easily cut the hair. Using the man’s face scrub before the shave will also raise the hairs further up from the skin, meaning your blade will cut the hair closer to the skin, allowing for less frequent and cleaner looking shaves.

As great as the benefits are of using a scrub, a guy needs to make sure he’s using it properly. Not using a face scrub for men isn’t an option, but also using one too much can cause issues. Over scrubbing your face can make it look dully, dry and irritate the crap out of it.

So, what is the perfect solution for your skin? It depends on your skin type. We’ve listed below the best way to use a scrub, based upon a man’s skin type.

Normal/Oily/Combo Skin

If you have normal, oily, or combo type skin, you have the luxury of being able to scrub your face one to three times a week without negative consequence.

In fact, if your skin is oilier, scrubbing can help prevent oil from building up in your pores. However, remember as mentioned above, don’t over scrub or you’ll end up with oily and irritated skin (never a good look).

Sensitive/Dry/Acne Prone Skin

If you have dry, sensitive, or acne prone skin, we recommend only using a man’s face scrub no more than once a week. On days you use the scrub, avoid also using a face wash for men as this will dramatically dry out your skin.

How to Work a Face Scrub for Men into your Daily Routine

Similar to washing your face, before using the scrub, rinse your face with warm water to open up the pores.  Apply a dime sized amount of men’s facial scrub to your skin and gently rub it, especially over the areas where your pores are the largest (usually nose and forehead). Remember though, the skin on your face is extremely delicate and it doesn’t take much to exfoliate it, so don’t scrub too hard.

If using scrub before a shave, make sure to concentrate rubbing the scrub on the areas of your face you plan on shaving.

After you’re done, rinse your face with cool water to shrink the pores, helping prevent any oil or impurities from going back into them. Pat (do not rub) your face dry with a towel.

Remember: Scrubbing can only clean your pores to a point, reduce acne to a point, and clear your skin to a point. Like the old adage, keep everything in moderation and you can have better skin.
